How to Use This Site
Research published in the journal Science shows that engaging with math as a family—even just once a week—can significantly improve a child's math achievement over the course of a school year.
To get the most out of Storytime Math:
- Read Together: Enjoy the daily story as a family to build a positive math identity.
- Pick a Level: Choose the question level that matches your child's age or grade.
- Focus on the Process: Discuss the problem out loud. Ask your child to "think through" the math—reasoning and communicating are just as important as the final answer!
- Embrace Mistakes: If the answer isn't right at first, treat it as a "teachable moment" to build resilience and reduce math anxiety.
- No Tools Needed: These problems are designed to be solved mentally, encouraging flexible thinking.
Inspiration & Mission
Storytime Math is inspired by Bedtime Math. A peer-reviewed study published in the journal Science (Maloney et al., 2015) demonstrated that using the Bedtime Math app even once a week significantly improved children's math performance over the course of a school year.
We build on this foundation by providing daily problems featuring stories with international appeal and a strict adherence to metric units. All our questions are carefully aligned with the Ontario Mathematics Curriculum (2020) to ensure they are age-appropriate and educationally sound for students in Canada and beyond.
Learning Levels
Our learning levels map directly to the Ontario curriculum strands:
Wee Ones (JK-SK)

Big Kids (Gr 3-5)
Expands into multi-digit operations, multi-step problems, and standard units for ages 8-10.
The Sky's the Limit (Gr 6-8)
